Purpose of the Role
The Regional Clinical Lead provides strategic and clinical nursing leadership across a defined cluster of primary care clinics. Working closely with senior leadership, management, and clinic teams, the role supports the delivery of high-quality, safe, and equitable nursing care.
A key focus of the role is strengthening nurse-led models of care, including planned care and nurse-led consults, while aligning nursing practice with current primary healthcare trends, workforce capability, systems, and technology.
About the Position
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, this role works in partnership with Cluster Managers, Charge Nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to implement contemporary nursing models of care, support clinical quality improvement, and enhance patient outcomes.
The position has a strong leadership and mentoring focus and plays a critical role in shaping nursing strategy and day-to-day clinical direction across the region.
Working Hours and Location
0.8 to 1.0 FTE
32 to 40 hours per week
Includes occasional on-call duties, no more than once per month
Based at a central Auckland office with regular travel across assigned clinics in South Auckland
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the strategic development and implementation of nursing services aligned with primary healthcare trends
• Provide clinical leadership, coaching, and professional guidance to nursing teams and senior stakeholders
• Support and mentor nursing staff, fostering capability, development, and performance
• Contribute to recruitment, orientation, training, and performance processes for nursing staff
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and oversee clinical audit activities
• Maintain oversight of nursing funding streams to support efficiency and sustainability
• Promote and uphold principles of health equity, cultural safety, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Demonstrate understanding of Māori tikanga, kawa, and culturally responsive models of care
Skills and Experience Required
• Current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate
• Extensive experience in primary care, general practice, and or urgent care settings
• Proven clinical leadership experience
• Minimum of five years nursing experience in New Zealand
• Strong organisational, leadership, and relationship-building skills
• Experience in quality improvement and clinical education
• Commitment to bicultural practice and reducing health inequities
• Understanding of PHO, ACC, and nursing professional development requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with MedTech or similar practice management systems is advantageous
• Legal right to work in New Zealand
