We are working with a well-established public health service in the North Island that is seeking a specialist Anaesthetist to join their progressive and supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make a lifestyle move to New Zealand, while contributing to a high-performing and quality-focused anaesthetic service.
About the Role and Team:
You will be joining a dynamic and collegial anaesthetic team providing services across elective and acute theatres, trauma, birthing, and MRI. The department also leads acute pain services and pre-assessment clinics, and is responsible for managing a 7-bed Intensive Care Unit.
There is also a regular outreach anaesthetic service and pre-admission clinic in a nearby facility, providing variety in your working week.
This is a full-scope role, ideal for a generalist anaesthetist with broad interests. Experience or interest in intensive care medicine is desirable but not essential. The team is supportive of professional development and is happy to accommodate and grow individual subspecialty interests.
What We’re Looking For:
To be eligible, you must have completed specialist anaesthetic training (FANZCA preferred) and be eligible for provisional vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
You’ll bring excellent communication skills, a team-oriented approach, and a willingness to contribute to ongoing service development.
What’s on Offer:
A diverse and collegial team environment
Six weeks annual leave
10 paid CME days with generous financial support
Flexible work options
Relocation assistance (including costs for family)
Opportunities for clinical leadership and service innovation
About the Location:
This central North Island location is known for its outstanding outdoor lifestyle, with access to mountain biking, lakes, hiking trails, and beaches all within easy reach. The area offers excellent schools, affordable living, and a welcoming, community-focused lifestyle — ideal for individuals, couples, or families looking for a better balance.
